Balers Choice

"There is a general recognition of the fact that there is a need to increase the long fibre content of a high yielding cows diet. The Balers Choice system has been well received and is what farmers are looking for. Its simple, safe to handle and quick as it provides the ability to bale at higher moisture contents without the risk of heating. What price do you put on gaining high quality feed stuff if by using an additive you can bale after a couple of days, rather than risk baling rubbish because in changeable weather you have had to keep turning the crop and lost 10 days"

"For second or third cut, baling and using Balers Choice has to be a more economical option compared to either forage harvesting or wrapping, which is expensive and has the problem of film disposal. From my point of view Balers Choice is ideal - I like the idea that it is buffered, so is safe to man and machine, and can be accurately applied with no wastage."

"Propionic acid is about the best preservative you can get, but its acidity has always been a problem. When I saw the leaflet about Balers Choice what immediately attracted me to it was the fact that although it was based on propionic acid, it was buffered so was safe to handle."

"Winter fodder for my own suckler cattle is usually made on off-lying, rented ground. For sucklers to be profitable you do not want expensive fodder and with prices as they are silage is getting too costly, so hay is an ideal, cost effective alternative. The fact that by using Balers Choice I can now bale at up to 30% moisture if required is ideal, but we would normally aim to bale at 20%."

"The resulting bales look and smell excellent, even those made in late September after a week of rain. There is no heating and as the moisture contents is constantly taken just enough is applied or not applied where the crop is drier, so there is greater consistency and no hot spots. I am looking forward to using the bales and I know quite a few customers will also be interested to see how they turn out with a view to using Balers Choice next year."

"I have absolutely no doubt that Balers Choice works. Its a very, very good product and it is certainly cheaper and easier that wrapping silage. I reckon its about two thirds the cost of wrapping, but for wrapping there is the added cost of having a second machine, tractor and operator, plus the need to handle the bales carefully once wrapped and the problem of film disposal after use."

"The applicator is an essential part of the Balers Choice system. I initially tried just using the additive by itself and that was a mistake - we had very mixed results. Once I got the applicator the results were far better and it worked perfectly."

"We have made bales for feeding to both dairy cattle and horses and customers have been extremely happy with the results. Dairy farmers are definitely looking for an alternative to baled silage as this is too expensive and results too variable."

"Balers Choice definitely brightens the bales up, they look fresher and now that I have started getting bales out of the shed you can immediately tell those that were baled using Balers Choice and those that werent."

"I only bale good quality meadow hay, cutting about 400 acres and timeliness is important if you are to get the quality needed for horses. Balers Choice gives me that timeliness and the ability to bale a day earlier, especially if the weather is catchy."

"I am pleased with what we have done, it is worth it - though I think 22% is about the limit - and will definitely be keen to try the system out next year on our Heston baler."

"I have only initially tried Balers Choice out on oat straw that was green on the headland, but it seems to have worked well and I have had no storage problems."

"I initially intended to use the system for hay, but due to the wet weather that was a complete wash-out and we had no option but to make silage. However we will be keen to use it next year and look forward to seeing what the straw looks like once we come to sell it later in the winter."

Silomax SI Choice

"With whole crop wheat it is difficult to get stable fermentation. Using Silomax SI & well-weighted sheet produced a very cool, stable and palatable feed which the cows hoovered up from the feed troughs. I used it last year on maize silage and had similar results. Certainly using this harvest"

"In a difficult year the performance of Silomax SI has exceeded expectations. Cows milk yield increased by 3 litres per cow in August when I introduced my first cut grass silage. Dry matter higher than expected 24%, excellent fermentation. Not using Silomax SI Choice is one cost cutting exercise I will not use "
